Back In Full Effect & Birthday Excitement

Joe helped me out yesterday to get the blog back online and in your faces.  By the time we finished (it did take a few hours), we were both satisfied that the solution we found to the hosting issue was the best one possible.  Everything seems to be working just swell, but let me know if you notice any problems…

Having the site back up obviously makes it a little easier to whip a post out here and there, so look for an up-tick on that in the next couple days– this morning, I can mention that we had a good time in Milwaukee on Saturday for Michelle’s and our friend Stephanie’s joint birthday parties.  Some photos to come in the next couple days when I get back to the homestead and can load them up.

Today, we are getting ready to head down to Schaumberg, IL for a visit to Ikea.  Tomorrow, we’ll be in Chicago for Michelle’s actual b-day, enjoying some tourist-y stops in the city.  Til then, enjoy the rest of your weekend!

This Is Where the Fun Begins.

Just got home from work for the day, and I have off for the big move until Monday. Jen is going to come over for a while this afternoon to help me lug some bigger-ticket stuff to Goodwill, and to lend a hand with a little living room packing.

Most everything here is packed, but there are some things in nooks and crannies that you just don’t always think to put in a box right away, y’know? Eh, maybe you don’t.  Anyway, I have today and most of tomorrow to finish it up.

Right now, I’m going to order me up some Jimmy John’s; they’ve got kind of a crappy drive, so I don’t think it’ll be as fast as usual.  But I’ve got enough to do in the meantime…

But, my point was that you may not here much from me in the interim.  I wanted to have most stuff done by tomorrow in the afternoon so I could do a podcast with Schneider and get it up on the web.  That DEFINITELY won’t be the sort of drawn-out process it was last week.

Other than that, though, we will most likely next commiserate from my new address!

Starting It Off

Thought I should try to get 2009 off to a solid blogging start– so here I am, a short 15 hours after we stopped drinking in the new year…

Had a very nice birthday and new year’s party.  Jen and Joe were nice enough to let me use the house for the bulk of the gathering, and I feel like everybody had a good time.  I might have actually been one of the first ones to hit the sack when I crashed on the couch at about 4:45 AM.  When we woke up late in the morning, Lorch was en route with coffee in hand, and we were able to have a visit with him, too.

If we missed you (some folks who weren’t able to make it or had their progress on the way in stunted), here’s hoping we can get together soon.

Hope your holidays were joyous and memorable, and I wish you the best as you begin the year.

Slow But Sudden

I feel like I’ve had enough prep time for the holiday season, for the most part.  Have a few last-minute things to do, and Michelle has had to use my kitchen for cookie baking while her oven is on the fritz, but I’m not too stressed.

Work is going to the slow for the next couple days, and I definitely have no complaints there; might get some miscellaneous personal stuff done…

Over the weekend, our Bock fam Christmas at Jen and Joe’s was nice; the turducken was good for dinner, Uncle Bob bought me and Joe some cigars, I made a quarter or so at Sheepshead, and the Mark-Bock-fam kicked butt @ Guitar Hero.

Hope you all have a relaxing holiday, and if you’re around, we’ll see you soon!

Yes, I Have Been Taking Some Photographs

There’s been some barking over the last week or so about the lack of new photos (of my apartment, in particular).  Rest assured, I have taken photos and you’ll all have a chance to see them.  First things first, though: a month later, please take a look at the handful of shots from Jen and Joe’s Justin Roth House Concert.  They are in the Milwaukee gallery.

Have to get back to making dinner now– I have plans to go to Mayfair to see Batman, and the show’s on in less than 2 hours.

Please Excuse the Brevity of This Post

Things at this new apartment are coming together just swimmingly.  Jen helped me out with the kitchen and hauling some stuff down to storage yesterday, and Grandma was here today to help with some other stuff (she got the paint off the front of all the bookshelves with steel wool).  Grandma also took one for the team when the coffee table got tipped over and tagged her in the melon.  I gave her some ice in a washcloth to keep the swelling down, and that seems to have worked OK.

By the end of my “vacation,” which comes to a close tomorrow, I think I’ll have all of the furniture arranged, and some spots plotted out for things on the walls, anyway.  I’m definitely more excited to live here than I was in the last place.  So that’s something.  Also– even though I only moved across town, it feels like I’m in a totally difference place.  Can’t really account for that, but it is what it is.

I’m going to turn on the pre-game for the Brewers now and try to finish up in the living room.  More on this and other goings on later…

Oh, Who Has Free WiFi In Your Neighborhood? In Your Neighborhood? In Your Neigh-bor-hood…

Here’s a clue: probably the one that never changed the default SSID.

I am now relocatified to Ardmore Ave in Shorewood.  I’ll have my own Internets rokkin out tomorrow, but for the time being, I thought I would give it a shot, to see if I can entertain myself this evening.  Not that I don’t have enough to keep me busy, but I figure I’ll get sick of putting stuff away at some point.

Right now, I have to stand at the laptop in the living room, cuz this is the only place where I can get a stong enough signal, and there are no chairs in here yet.  A few initial comments and observations, though:

  • I was first planning on trying to make this move unassisted.  That would have been a mistake; I’d only be half done at this moment if I had.  It was good to have assistance from Joe and Christy and Jen.
  • I have given the ghetto Wal-Mart on Capitol Drive two fair chances.  But the place is a dive.  I’m going to have to do that sort of shopping elsewhere.  Someplace NORTH of my building.
  • I can hear the neighbors on the stairs, but it’s not too big a deal.
  • My linen closet is freaking huge for a 1-bedroom apartment.  It reminds me of the one that Grandma and Grandpa Bock had up north, but full-on floor-to-ceiling.
  • Nice to have wood floors again.

OK, I need to at least finish putting the bathroom together before the end of the day…
